Nomono - From Hardware to SaaS

Nomono started out as a hardware-focused company, best known for their Sound Capsule, a high-quality audio recording device. While the product was innovative, it was also niche and costly, limiting their growth potential.

Snowball reunited with Nomono to refine their business strategy, guiding their pivot from a hardware-focused company to a Software as a Service (SaaS) business model and bringing a new direction to life through shifting the focus towards an enhanced, all-in-one audio production platform.

Client

Nomono is an audio technology SaaS first scale-up that combines their premium audio recording devices and companion app, the Nomono Studio App, with their editing platform, Nomono Studio Cloud.

Challenge

Although Nomono offered software, their hardware focused business model was limiting their growth. To scale, they needed to shift to a SaaS focused business strategy, clarify their brand messaging, and rebuild their website to clearly present their new hardware and software bundles.

Outcome

Snowball helped Nomono shift from hardware focused business strategy to SaaS focused strategy. We helped re-brand their product offerings, clarify their brand story, and built a new website that includes clearer descriptions of their product offerings, subscription models, and user value. Today, Nomono drives recurring revenue via their subscription models and is reaching wider markets through hardware bundled with SaaS subscriptions and a stronger digital presence.

Evolving Nomono beyond hardware

Snowball was excited to reunite with Nomono on a future-focused strategy that transformed them from a hardware focused company into a Software as a Service (SaaS) business. Nomono’s journey began with software playing a more minor and supporting role to the Sound Capsule, an innovative, high quality audio recorder, which was their primary focus at the time.

Unifying the Offering Under One Ecosystem

Snowball helped Nomono rethink their strategy, moving beyond hardware-focused revenue into a software and subscription model. Originally called Nomono Cloud, we rebranded their cloud-based editing software, their app (previously called Companion App), and their recording devices (Sound Capsule and Stellar Kit) into Nomono Studio, unifying their entire offering under a single name. We also introduced subscription tiers that bundled hardware with the Studio Cloud software, now shifting the focus toward promoting the entire package. This strategy was pivotal in shifting Nomono from one-time sales to recurring revenue.

Clarifying their Brand Story

Snowball recognized that clarifying the brand messaging was crucial to Nomono’s success. Early communication focused heavily on the Sound Capsule hardware, without making it obvious that the real value was in using both the hardware and Nomono Studio software. Unclear messaging on Nomono’s website led many site visitors to believe that Nomono only sold traditional audio recording equipment, instead of their complete end-to-end recording and editing solution.

In order to highlight Nomono’s complete offering and clearly define their repositioning as a future-focused SaaS company, we:

  • Unified the offering under a single name, indicating that Nomono’s product is a complete audio solution
  • Shifted the focus from just the hardware to highlight the benefits of the hardware and software working together

These improvements to brand messaging strengthened Nomono’s positioning as a SaaS-first company, increasing their appeal to new users, investors, and partners.

Making Nomono more accessible

In addition to clarifying Nomono’s brand message, Snowball helped feature their newly launched product, the Stellar Kit, a more affordable recording device. Unlike the Sound Capsule, which used four microphones, the Stellar Kit offers a compact, two microphone setup delivering great recording quality.

Since the Sound Capsule is a very expensive product, we realized that Nomono’s newer product was vital to their market expansion as it has a more approachable price point. We supported Nomono in highlighting and promoting the Stellar Kit as part of the new Nomono Studio by creating captivating landing pages and campaign content.

Transforming the website into a growth engine

To better showcase Nomono’s latest offerings, Snowball refined the website’s communication, visual identity, and overall presentation. The previous site focused heavily on the hardware, dense content, and a need for more product clarity.

The enhanced site prioritized:

  • Clarity: we simplified the language by replacing long technical descriptions with clearer, more concise explanations, helping users instantly understand what Nomono offers
  • Presentation: we added eyecatching videos, clean feature grids, and straightforward comparison charts to make the value easier to grasp at a glance

Prioritizing users with focus on clarity and usability resulted in a site that is intuitive and aligned with Nomono’s scaling business goals.

Simplifying the Journey

Alongside content challenges, Nomono’s checkout flow was experiencing friction, while performance across the website needed improvement.

Our enhancements included:

  • Optimized checkout flow: to optimize customer journeys, we created new checkout pages with bundle options and streamlined the path from purchase to activating Nomono Studio.
  • SEO & content: to improve search visibility, we developed an SEO strategy focused on relevant keyword research and optimizing on-page content, including meta descriptions.
  • Marketing: we created engaging landing pages featuring Nomono’s first bundle offering.
  • Website technical performance: we significantly improved the performance of the site, resulting in noticeably faster load times and more efficient data fetching.
  • App enhancements: we created a more intuitive and seamless user experience (UX) in the Nomono Studio app, by enhancing UX design, UX writing, and user testing. These enhancements also improved onboarding and activation flows and clarifying in-app communication.

Faster performance, stronger SEO, and clearer communication boosted visibility, while a streamlined checkout and smoother onboarding improved conversions. Snowball’s enhancements to Nomono’s website and digital experience make it easier for customers to discover, understand, purchase, and activate Nomono Studio.

  • Recurring revenue streams now come from SaaS subscriptions bundled with hardware.
  • Promoting the Stellar Kit opens doors to new markets with a more accessible entry point.

Snowball’s collaboration with Nomono continues, with ongoing support across website development, design, and content, as the company grows. With their shift from hardware focused sales to a SaaS business model, Nomono’s brand is now reinforced for the future.
